Film Review- The Road

This has been resident Film Buff, Andrew Briggs's favourite movie of the year so far. Read on to find out why!

It asks questions of what is life about? and what hope is. It set in a time where the world has seen severe climate and environmental changes, it is colder and the earth is no longer supporting the growth of plants and animals thus the human race are becoming extinct. There is little explanation to the reasoning behind this change in the earth. but alas the scene is set.

Where things are black and white, you are either wholly good or evil. We watch the story of a father and son as they journey southwards in quest of warmer weather as the cold and lack of food is destroying civilization were humans have become either the hunters or the cattle. Alike cattle the characters remain nameless throughout the film, for where is identity amongst survival and where death seems a better option than the struggle to stay alive in a world with no hope for a better future. Its interesting to see man satisfy his most basic needs whilst fully illuminating his most basic sinful nature.

I said earlier that this movie is about the survival of a father and son and their purity of hope within but more than anything else, 'The Road' is a picture of a father's fierce love for his son.

The less said about this movie the better, just go rent it!! As long as you are over 15 (definite scenes that may upset younger viewers)
